A fake bank calling itself Freedom 1st National Bank is part of a scheme that involves soliciting consumers for secured credit cards through the mail. Potential victims receive solicitations which may mention that Credit One Bank is connected with the card agreement. Credit One Bank has no connection to this scam. Victims then submit check payments ranging from $500 to $900 as deposits to obtain a credit card with the understanding that he or she is entering into a program to rebuild poor credit. The checks are cashed and the victims never receive the credit card. Plus, they have provided all the information required to steal the victim’s identity.
